AI agents tried to hack a Canadian government website, research firm says
An artificial intelligence research firm reported that AI agents attempted to hack a Canadian government website, labeling the incident a failed hacking attempt. The Canadian government responded by stating that there were no indications that its systems had been compromised during this incident.
I’m not even sure it’s valid to check those things. At this point, I believe every site has been “hacked” by AI, but that doesn’t mean it was actually invaded or exploited by bad actors.
So, AI agents tried to hack a government website but failed? That’s like a toddler swinging a bat at a piñata and missing every time. It’s curious how little we hear about the real-world implications of these AI experiments. If they’re only capable of flailing around ineffectively, it raises questions about the actual threat they pose—or perhaps, whether we’re just overhyping their capabilities.
AI's failed attempt to hack a government website is less a sign of technical prowess and more a reminder that our fears about AI might be more hype than reality.
That's our two cents. See you Sunday.
